Hardball Lesson 4: Leave No Shot Unanswered

Definition:

The rule of leaving no shot unanswered means you must reply to every attack made against you by an opponent. If you do not respond, the statement looks like its true, and could cost you a win. There are three ways to reattack your opponent.
1. "Catch ‘em in a lie"- show the flaw in your opponents attack; find something that will prove the truth
2. "Ridicule"- make light of a situation the opponent forces on you.
3. "Jujitsu"- spin the shot against you so it’s against your opponent, “use the force of the opponent’s own attack to bring him down”

The first video is a McCain ad states that Obama is just like a celebrity, meaning he known by everyone just as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Bringing up the question is a celebrity ready to lead this country?, and blaming him for new, higher taxes, and more foreign oil. Of course, Obama fights back in the second video saying we should be discussing more important issues like energy and health care, but instead we focusing on the "negative ads". He also brings up the very significant point that these ads will not play any role in changing things like rising gas prices. So he left "no shot unanswered".

Paramus, New Jersey to see why they voted for Ronald Regan, but were now planning to vote for Michael Dukakis. The staff, worried as to why Bush's stats were down and were surprised to hear that these conservative democrats thought that Dukakis was more conservative than Bush. From there, Bush's staff questioned the same group of people to see if they were familiar with a policy in which Dukakis allowed which gave prisoners (ranking up into 1st degree murderers) to be set free on weekends. And also informed them that Dukakis also refused to sign a bill that required teachers to lead their class with the Pledge of Allegiance. Bush Sr. continued to exploit these shocking facts which worked in his advantage because Dukakis broke a cardinal rule in politics, "Leave No Shot Unanswered" because if you do, the public will always assume that the allegations are true. Thus, without Dakakis using the three steps, George Bush Sr. was able to turn the election completely around and win the Presidency.
